Artist Statement

I’m intrigued by the mystery of both the vastness of galaxies and the intimate processes within living cells. These extremes—expansive and microscopic—shape my wonder in the world and feed directly into my painting practice. My work explores this dynamic tension and transformation, a constant state of change that connects the cosmos to the microcosm. I’m drawn to the cyclical nature of life—birth, death, and renewal—and to how these rhythms quietly structure both nature and our human experience.

While I don’t depict landscapes, my work draws from its traditions. I build up layers of translucent paint to create fluid, atmospheric surfaces that feel immersive—like being underwater or surrounded by dense, humid air. Forms that suggest plants, cells, or cultural symbols appear and then become partially obscured, echoing the way thoughts surface and fade in the mind. As these motifs accumulate and interact, their meanings begin to shift and evolve, forming a kind of internal map or unfolding narrative. Emotion moves through the work as a generative force, creating growth and transformation while opening space for renewal. The paintings settle into a state that feels both active and still, holding a quiet tension that reflects the rhythm of their making.
